From our president: What our Clinical Excellence Award means to you

All of us at Howard County General are very proud that our hospital has been selected as a “Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence” for the second year in a row. This high honor affirms that we are succeeding in our mission to deliver outstanding health care to our neighbors in and around Howard County.
The HealthGrades award puts us in the top 5 percent of hospitals nationwide. This means that, based on an objective, third-party statistical analysis, the rates of mortality and complications for our patients are far below the national average.
This award does not signify perfection, but it is important. So what does that mean to you as a patient? It means that whatever your reason for visiting our hospital — to welcome a new baby, to have a broken bone treated in our ER, or for a complex surgery — our physicians, nurses and staff will provide you with better care than you are likely to receive elsewhere — top 5 percent care!
As a Johns Hopkins hospital, we’re part of a health care community that is at the forefront of medical science and clinical care. Many of the breakthroughs that paved the way for today’s “standard” procedures, from cardiac defibrillation to open-heart surgery to promising new cancer treatments, were developed right at Johns Hopkins. We’re proud to carry on the tradition of excellence of the Johns Hopkins family; for the nineteenth year in a row, Johns Hopkins hospital has been rated the #1 hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
But most of all, we’re proud to bring such outstanding care to our neighbors. On behalf of all of us at Howard County General, I want to thank you for your support and for trusting us with your health.
